Poland student living costs and tuition fees rise sharply
Rising living and education costs are significantly impacting students in Poland. According to reports from Centrum AMRON and the Warsaw Banking Institute, the monthly budget required for a student has risen from approximately 2,800 PLN in the 2021/2022 academic year to over 4,000 PLN in 2026. This increase is primarily driven by higher rents, food prices, and transportation costs.
In major cities like Warsaw, renting a room averages 1,306 PLN monthly, while sharing an apartment can cost students around 1,945 PLN per person. To mitigate these expenses, roughly 70 percent of students living in rented accommodations opt to share spaces. While university dormitories remain the most affordable option, with prices ranging from 600 PLN to 1,100 PLN, limited availability has led to the creation of waiting lists in cities like Szczecin.
Furthermore, specialized education is becoming increasingly expensive. Medical studies are seeing substantial tuition hikes; for instance, a six-year medical program at Lazarski University in Warsaw is projected to cost a total of 506,000 PLN due to annual increases. Similar trends are noted at the Poznan Academy of Medicine, where total costs for six years are estimated at 450,000 PLN.
