Polish travelers increasingly seek vacation insurance amid safety concerns

A recent IQS study commissioned by insurer Warta finds that more than 80% of Poles plan a holiday between June and September, but 41% feel less safe abroad than a year ago, citing conflicts in the Middle East and other geopolitical tensions. The same research shows that 57% intend to choose safe destinations and 47% plan to stay within Europe.

Travel insurance uptake is rising: PZU’s survey reports that 60% of Poles traveling abroad purchase travel insurance, while Allianz Partners’ “Polacy na wakacjach 2026” poll indicates 51% intend to buy a policy for their next trip. Nevertheless, 41% still rely solely on the European Health Insurance Card (EKUZ), often misunderstanding its limits – it does not cover private care, non‑EU destinations such as Turkey, or medical evacuation, which can cost tens of thousands of euros.

Experts highlight the financial risk of untreated medical emergencies abroad. Examples include a six‑year‑old’s surgery in Turkey costing 50 000 zł, a hospitalization in France exceeding 243 000 zł, and medical transport expenses of up to 100 000 zł. Consequently, advisers recommend allocating at least 2 % of a vacation budget to comprehensive travel insurance.
