Polish Villages Day commemorations draw Deputy PM Kosiniak‑Kamysz

On 12 July 2026, a ceremony was held in the village Węgry, Gmina Żórawina, under the monument to Wincenty Witos. The event gathered national and local officials, representatives of the armed forces, veteran organisations, school delegations and residents. It featured a military honour guard, a rendition of the national anthem, a reading of a memorial appeal and a salute, followed by the laying of wreaths by officials including the deputy voivode Artur Jurkowski and the mayor of Żórawina.

Later the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz addressed the national observance of the Day of Fight and Martyrdom of Polish Villages in Warsaw. He recalled the 1943 pacification of Michniów, highlighted the historic role of Polish villages in supporting the resistance, and called for national unity to deter war. Kosiniak‑Kamysz stressed the importance of modernising the armed forces, the record defence budget, NATO cooperation and the lessons from the war in Ukraine, urging solidarity against hybrid threats and propaganda.
