Polish volunteer Marek Rusek-Wolski killed in Russian drone attack honored in Kyiv funeral

Marek Rusek‑Wolski, a 42‑year‑old Polish volunteer, was killed on 27 July when a Russian drone struck his vehicle near Kharkiv while he was delivering food, medicine and assisting evacuations for civilians on the front lines. His body was returned to Kyiv, where a funeral service was held in the Roman‑Catholic Cathedral of St. Alexander. The ceremony was attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Sybih, Polish charge d’affaires Piotr Łukasiewicz, Ukrainian ambassador to Poland Wasyl Bodnar and other officials. They praised Rusek‑Wolski’s dedication, calling him “a great son of Poland, a great friend of Ukraine,” and affirmed that his death underscores the ongoing Russian aggression. Ukrainian authorities announced they will fund a monument at his gravesite as a lasting reminder of Polish‑Ukrainian solidarity.
