Polish weather agencies issue storm and water‑level warnings for Mazovia and Gdańsk
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) announced a first‑degree storm warning for several counties in the Mazowieckie region on Thursday 9 July and Friday 10 July. Forecasts call for thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and gusts up to 65 km/h, and authorities advised residents to avoid parking under trees, secure objects on balconies, keep emergency supplies and stay indoors during the worst of the storm.
At the same time, the Regional Water Management Board in Gdańsk issued a second‑degree hydrological alert as water levels in the Port Północny (552 cm) and Sobieszewo (553 cm) exceeded alert thresholds due to a western‑north‑western storm. The board warned residents of coastal and riverside areas to stay alert, noted that storm‑gates on the river Tucha were closed, and reminded the public of ongoing drought concerns elsewhere in the country.
Both agencies urged people in the affected zones to follow official updates, limit outdoor activities, and take precautionary measures to reduce risk.
