Poland's July inflation hits 3% as fuel price surge follows end of CPN program
Poland's consumer‑price index rose to 3.0 % year‑on‑year in July 2026, up from 2.5 % in June. The monthly CPI increase was 0.8 %.
Fuel prices for private transport jumped 13.9 % month‑on‑month and were 15.8 % higher than a year earlier. The surge is attributed to the termination of the “Ceny Paliwa Niżej” (CPN) programme on 30 June 2026 and the reinstatement of the standard 23 % VAT on fuel, combined with a rise in global oil prices.
The government announced a new fuel‑price protection mechanism that is expected to start at the end of the summer to shield drivers from further price spikes. Core inflation remained around 3 %, and the National Bank of Poland left its policy rate unchanged, keeping monetary policy steady despite the temporary price pressure.
