Polish WIG20 Index Nears 19‑Year Record Amid Strong Market Rally

The Warsaw Stock Exchange’s WIG20 index is approaching a historic high not seen in 19 years, trading above 3,900 points and edging toward the 2007 peak of 3,940. Gains are driven by solid earnings from major Polish banks such as Erste Bank Polska and Pekao SA, which lifted the WIG‑Bankes sub‑index by up to 2.5%. A weaker U.S. dollar after the Federal Reserve meeting and high yields on 30‑year U.S. Treasury bonds have also supported the rally, while positive sentiment on U.S. markets, notably Microsoft’s strong performance, added further optimism.

Analysts note that despite geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and mixed U.S. economic data—lower inflation PCE but slower GDP growth—the Polish market remains resilient, with foreign investors contributing to the upward momentum. If the trend continues, the WIG20 could set a new record before the weekend.
