Polish woman Ania survives lightning strike, family launches medical fundraiser

Ania was struck by lightning while seeking shelter in a mountain shelter during a storm in Poland. The bolt caused severe head, lung and liver injuries, brain swelling and subarachnoid bleeding. Resuscitation by her husband and bystanders restored her heartbeat, and she was rushed to hospital where she underwent neck‑artery surgery and intensive care.

Ania remains in a critical condition, having emerged from a coma but still unable to communicate. Doctors say she faces a prolonged course of neurological rehabilitation and specialized treatment. To cover the high cost of her care, her family has started an online fundraising campaign aimed at financing her medical expenses and long‑term therapy.
