Polish ZUS to raise pensions and add special payments for seniors
The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) announced a series of benefit changes for Polish seniors. Starting in 2026, women born in 1961 who reach age 65 will receive an automatic pension recalculation that could raise monthly payments by 200‑600 zł without any application. The reform stems from the integration of former OFE capital and a revised life‑expectancy factor used in the calculation.
ZUS will also begin paying a new honorarium to citizens who turn 100 years old. The monthly amount is 6 938.92 zł gross and is granted automatically to eligible centenarians who hold Polish citizenship and receive a pension or rent. As of June 2026, 4 262 people receive this payment, up from 4 057 a year earlier.
The recently introduced “renta wdowia” (widow’s pension) now combines a primary benefit with a 15 % supplement from a deceased spouse’s pension; the supplement will rise to 25 % from 2027. In June 2026, about 993 000 seniors received this combined benefit, amounting to roughly 4 bn zł in total payouts.
Other measures include earlier disbursement of pensions and rents for certain birth cohorts (1949‑1968) who meet special‑condition work criteria, and a modest increase in the minimum pension indexation of about 3.48 % for 2027.
