Polish ZUS warns of SMS phishing scams targeting citizens

A resident of Zielona Góra received a suspicious SMS containing a link to a fake eZUS portal. Instead of clicking, the person visited the nearest ZUS office, where officials confirmed it was an attempt to steal personal data. ZUS emphasized that it never sends SMS messages with external links or requests passwords, login details, or credit‑card information.

The institution listed common fraud tactics, including fabricated payment notices, fraudulent pension programs, deep‑fake investment ads, and attempts by impostors to visit seniors at home. ZUS advises the public to ignore unknown links, refrain from sharing confidential information, and report any dubious SMS to the free number 8080, which can block malicious domains. Additional reports can be made to CERT Polska via its website or the mObywatel app.
