Politecnico di Torino tests hybrid renewable energy prototype in Alghero

The Politecnico di Torino, in collaboration with the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park, has redeployed the WEPA (Water Energy Point Absorber) prototype near Capo Galera in Alghero, Italy. This initiative is part of the European VAGUE project, an Interreg Italy-France maritime program.

The WEPA system is a hybrid technological solution designed to integrate three renewable energy sources: wave motion, solar energy, and wind. The prototype, which was recently updated with new instrumentation, is located approximately 500 meters from Capo Galera within the Capo Caccia – Isola Piana Marine Protected Area.

The project aims to evaluate the potential of integrated energy systems for use in isolated or difficult-to-reach locations. By utilizing these renewable sources, the initiative seeks to improve energy autonomy for structures within the protected area and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources. The technical activities involve the Politecnico di Torino, SEAform srl, and NelBlu snc.
