Politehnica Timișoara strengthens squad and plans new €23 m stadium to chase Superliga promotion
Politehnica Timișoara, fresh off promotion to Romania's Liga 2 after three seasons in the third tier, has launched an ambitious project to reach the Superliga. The club’s transfer window brought in several players, most notably 21‑year‑old midfielder Dan Spătaru, who said he is "very happy" to join and will give his all for the team. Other signings include Andrei Artean, Aurelian Chițu, Mihai Ronț, Stephan Drăghici, Ștefan Ștefanovici and Ovidiu Popescu.
The sporting side is backed by a sizable budget aimed at meeting the club’s objectives, according to director general Dinu Bara, who described it as “adapted to expectations”. In parallel, Politehnica is preparing a new home ground, the Arena “Eroii Timișoarei”, slated to open in winter 2026‑2027. The stadium will hold over 10,000 spectators and cost about €23 million. The club also appointed former international Iosif Rotariu as head of scouting, reinforcing its long‑term development strategy.
