Tomar Polytechnic University leaders meet to plan regional strategy

Political leaders, local officials, and academic representatives met in Tomar to discuss the current status and future strategic planning for the Polytechnic University of Tomar (UPT). The meeting included the Mayor of Tomar, Tiago Carrão; the Rector of UPT, João Coroado; the Mayor of Abrantes and President of the Médio Tejo Intermunicipal Community, Manuel Jorge Valamatos; and deputies Hugo Costa and Ricardo Carlos.

Participants emphasized that higher education is essential for the development of the Médio Tejo region. The strategy aims to strengthen the institution's connection to local municipalities, the intermunicipal community, and the regional economic fabric. The university maintains campuses in both Tomar and Abrantes, offering various levels of education including undergraduate, master's, and recently introduced doctoral programs.

This meeting marks the beginning of a series of working sessions scheduled over the coming weeks to define specific lines of action for the institution's growth and regional integration.
