Political accountability calls rise in Honduras and Peru

In Honduras, former Attorney General Johel Zelaya has called for legal action against lawmakers who approved the ZEDES (Employment and Economic Development Zones) framework. Zelaya stated that following a ruling declaring ZEDES unconstitutional, those responsible should face legal consequences. He urged the Liberal and National parties to repeal Decree 117-2019, arguing that parliamentary immunity has prevented legal proceedings against legislators involved in the approval process.

In Peru, former parliamentary president César Zumaeta has proposed suspending payments and bonuses for inactive deputies and senators, as well as their advisors, to address legislative stagnation. Zumaeta suggested that the government's failure to pass essential security and El Niño prevention measures stems from both radical opposition and the submission of overly massive legislative packages. He proposed utilizing the Constitutional Court to allow the Executive to issue urgent decrees without parliamentary approval to ensure public management continuity.
