Political candidates emerge for 2027 elections in Kano and Jigawa

Political preparations for the 2027 gubernatorial elections in Nigeria have seen key nominations in Kano and Jigawa states.

In Kano State, Abbas Ibrahim, the former chairman of the Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has emerged as the Labour Party's deputy governorship candidate. Ibrahim resigned from his position as an NUJ National Trustee to focus on the political process alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Hamisu Santuraki.

In Jigawa State, Deputy Governor Aminu Usman has been renominated as the running mate to Governor Umar Namadi for the 2027 election. Usman described the nomination as a “renewed call to service” during a meeting with members of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel in Jigawa.
