Political candidates outline visions for Anambra and Enugu governorships

In Anambra State, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants Lady Chidi Onyemelukwe and Dr. Godwin Maduka are campaigning ahead of the November 6 governorship election. Onyemelukwe, daughter of the late Dr. Alex Ekwueme, has pledged to restore fiscal solvency, address insecurity, and improve infrastructure, including pipe-borne water and road networks. She characterized the current state of Anambra as fiscally and morally broken, emphasizing the need to tackle unemployment.

In Enugu State, Nnamdi Ugwu, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) candidate for the 2027 election, has unveiled a manifesto aimed at transforming the state economy. Ugwu proposed a five-pillar plan to grow Enugu's economy from less than $6 billion to $50 billion within four years. His strategy focuses on agriculture and livestock, an Auto City and manufacturing project, foreign and local investment, the gas and power economy, and human capital, services, tourism, and ICT. Ugwu criticized the current reliance on federal allocations, stating the goal is to move away from dependency on Abuja.
