Political coalitions form in Mallorca and Barcelona

In Mallorca, the political parties PSIB-PSOE, Més per Mallorca, Sumar, and Esquerra Unida (EU) have announced a joint candidacy named ‘Acord de Progrés per Mallorca’ for the Spanish Senate elections on November 29. Led by Catalina Cladera and Francisco González, the coalition aims to unite progressive votes to defend regional interests, including housing, pensions, public services, and language rights. The group seeks to counter the rise of right-wing and far-right movements.

In Barcelona, former mayor Ada Colau, representing the Frente Amplio, has proposed a State Pact to address railway safety following a recent accident in Urda. Following meetings with railway unions, Colau suggested reunifying Renfe and ADIF to restore public confidence in the rail system. Her platform calls for an audit of infrastructure, a reversal of the outsourcing of essential maintenance, increased staffing, and higher funding for rail services over airport expansion.
