Political corruption in Brazil viewed through lens of partisan bias

An analysis of political corruption in Brazil suggests that indignation toward misconduct is applied inconsistently across the political spectrum. While past scandals involving the Workers' Party led to the generalization of corruption as a trait of the left, recent scandals involving right-wing figures have not elicited a similar level of universal condemnation.

Recent examples cited include the movement of tens of billions of reais through a secret budget during a right-wing administration to benefit congressional bases, as well as 'rachadinha' schemes involving right-wing political offices. Additionally, billion-real scandals involving the INSS and Banco Master have highlighted connections between power and money involving figures from the right. The text argues that for some, corruption serves as a moral alibi to justify a broader rejection of the social shifts represented by the left, such as increased representation of Black citizens, women, and the LGBTQ+ community in positions of power.
