Political crisis hits Bagnolet municipal majority

The municipal majority in Bagnolet, led by Green Mayor Édouard Denouel, is facing a political crisis following the departure of several La France insoumise (LFI) elected officials. The split follows an incident during a public meeting regarding student mobilization, where LFI members accused the mayor’s chief of staff and a municipal agent of intimidating two youths, including a minor.

LFI representatives stated that the situation required intervention from CGT militants to protect the students. The group claimed that the mayor refused to issue an apology or launch an internal investigation, leading them to conclude that the current administration's methods are incompatible with their political project. In response to the tension, the mayor has revoked the delegations of six elected officials, including four deputies.
