Political developments in Huanchaco and Quito
In Peru, Jordan Piminchumo, the virtual winner of the mayoral election in Huanchaco, has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive audit of the outgoing administration. Piminchumo stated he intends to forge his own leadership path, distancing himself from the styles of other controversial mayors. He also addressed recent intimidation and threats during the electoral process, suggesting they may have originated from sectors linked to the current municipal management.
In Ecuador, Pabel Muñoz, the current mayor of Quito and candidate for reelection, faces a criminal complaint filed by former CPCCS member Esteban Guarderas. The complaint alleges a scheme of mandatory “tithes” or contributions collected from officials at the Metropolitan Public Passenger Transport Company of Quito. Guarderas claims these funds, allegedly collected via WhatsApp reminders and through raffle ticket sales, were used to finance Muñoz’s political campaign. The complaint, which includes allegations of extortion and bribery, has been submitted to the Prosecutor's Office for investigation.
