Political developments in Italy: New civic movement and threats against local officials

In Bitonto, a local branch of the cultural and civic movement ‘Schierarsi’ has been established. Led by Davide Sgaramella, Nicola Piperis, and Ketty Macchia, the organization aims to encourage active citizenship and address issues such as social justice, environmental sustainability, workers' rights, and organized crime.

Separately, the Mayor of Sassuolo, Matteo Mesini, has filed a formal complaint following violent threats directed at him on social media. Mesini expressed concern over comments suggesting physical violence against him and other officials, noting that such rhetoric crosses the line from political criticism into criminal threats. The incident follows similar reports of threats against the Mayor of Modena, Massimo Mezzetti.
