Political developments in Sri Lanka and Malaysia

In Sri Lanka, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has accused the current government of undermining democracy and judicial independence through the 22nd Amendment to the constitution. Speaking at a diploma award ceremony, Premadasa claimed the administration has disrupted the balance between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, despite campaigning on promises of systemic reform and the protection of fundamental rights.

Premadasa further criticized the government's economic approach, stating that the administration has neglected farmers and failed to implement a humane capitalism or social market economy. He argued that while countries like Singapore have progressed, Sri Lanka's current path risks increasing the gap between the rich and the poor.

In Malaysia, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Armizan Ali stated that despite criticisms between party activists, relations among cabinet members remain professional, constructive, and harmonious. Armizan noted that the political maturity shown by ministers from various coalitions, such as Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional, ensures government stability and a unified commitment to national development.
