Political figures face corruption trials in Argentina and Spain

High-profile corruption trials are proceeding in Argentina and Spain involving former political figures.

In Argentina, Máximo Kirchner is set to face trial starting October 23 in the Los Sauces SA case. He is accused of organizing an illicit association and money laundering through the Kirchner family's real estate firm. Prosecutors allege the company was used to legitimize funds derived from public works fraud and illegal benefits, resulting in a 12,000% increase in the company's assets. A key hearing will determine if the Hotesur SA case will be joined with this trial.

In Spain, former President of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio González, is facing his first oral trial at the Audiencia Nacional as part of the Lezo corruption case. The prosecution alleges that González and other officials improperly modified contracts related to a park project to favor a specific construction firm. In exchange, the firm allegedly subcontracted work to a company linked to González's brother and brother-in-law, resulting in hundreds of thousands of euros in illicit benefits.
