Political figures Reid and Boehner reflect on past friction as Trump criticizes media
Former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid recently addressed a 2013 confrontation with former Republican House Speaker John Boehner. In his new memoir, “On the House: A Washington Memoir,” Boehner recounted a heated exchange at the White House where he confronted Reid over comments regarding a “dictatorship of the Speaker” during fiscal negotiations. Reid noted that while they “didn't mince words” and he actively worked to cause Boehner trouble to weaken his caucus, they ultimately “got a lot done.”
Separately, Donald Trump expressed frustration during a TIME magazine interview, complaining that journalists failed to ask him “one fucking positive question.” When questioned about Mitch McConnell’s health and potential presidential pardons, Trump pivoted to discussing his White House renovations and criticized the media for focusing on negative topics rather than his perceived accomplishments.
