Political fragmentation impacts Brazilian regional elections

Political dynamics are shifting across Brazilian states as election campaigns intensify. In Goiás, political groups are experiencing significant internal divisions. Candidates for legislative positions are reportedly prioritizing their own campaigns over supporting majoritarian candidates, such as those running for governor or senate. This fragmentation has led to a lack of unified support for key figures like Ronaldo Caiado.

In Minas Gerais, a scheduled gubernatorial debate saw a major disruption when six of the seven invited candidates failed to attend. Gabriel Azevedo (MDB) was the sole participant, resulting in the event being converted into a 30-minute interview session. While several candidates had previously confirmed their attendance, they withdrew at the last minute. Recent polling by the Quaest institute indicates Cleitinho Azevedo leads the race with 29%, followed by Patrus Ananias at 11% and Alexandre Kalil at 10%.
