Political friction intensifies in Italian local government

Political tensions are escalating within local government in Italy, marked by resignations and physical altercations between council members.

Guido Bertolazzi has resigned from his position as group leader for Fratelli d'Italia and left the party, citing internal attacks and a lack of support for his mediation efforts between party factions and the local administration. While moving to the mixed group, Bertolazzi stated he will continue to support the majority and maintains that Fratelli d'Italia remains his political reference.

Separately, a physical confrontation occurred during a commission meeting between Forza Italia group leader Francesco Ferranti and council member Guido Verdecchia. Ferranti reported that Verdecchia used insulting language, shouted without authorization, and physically moved Ferranti to access a microphone. The incident required the intervention of local police and has led to formal requests for the issue to be addressed by the conference of group presidents.
