Costa Rica to host ‘Faroleada por la Democracia’ protests across 30 cantons

The ‘Faroleada por la Democracia’ is a series of simultaneous citizen demonstrations scheduled to take place across more than 30 cantons in Costa Rica. Organized by groups including the Colectivo de Sindicatos ANEP and the Colectiva Autónoma por la Resistencia Social, the event is framed as a peaceful patriotic manifestation using the traditional night of lanterns as a backdrop.

Meeting points have been established in various cities, including San José, Cartago, Alajuela, Heredia, and Limón, with most activities beginning around 4:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring lanterns, banners, and Costa Rican flags. In Cartago, the event coincides with official activities related to the arrival of the Independence Torch and the Government Council.
