Political leaders address electoral reform and investigation updates
In Cyprus, Mustafa Emiroğulları, the Organizing Secretary of the TDP, has criticized recent legislative changes regarding the electoral system. Emiroğulları argued that the removal of the mixed game system was rushed and called for a more comprehensive reform. He advocated for lowering the election threshold and reducing the number of electoral districts from five to three to ensure better representation for small political parties, which he described as the ‘lock on the door’ for democracy.
In Turkey, Büyük Birlik Partisi (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici addressed the ongoing investigation into the 2009 helicopter crash that killed the party's founder, Muhsin Yazıcıoğlu. Destici noted that recent operations led to the detention of 38 individuals, with 36 facing arrest warrants. He praised the Ministry of Justice and the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for their transparency and meticulous handling of the case, stating that the party will continue to follow the investigation until all doubts regarding the crash and subsequent irregularities are resolved.
