Political leaders demand action on rising violence against women

Political leaders in India are raising alarms over the increasing incidents of violence and sexual harassment against women. Priyanka Gandhi, Member of Parliament for Wayanad, stated that the current environment for women's safety has deteriorated significantly compared to the past. She emphasized that discussing large-scale development projects is meaningless if the safety of women cannot be guaranteed on the streets.

In Tamil Nadu, AMMK General Secretary D.T.V. Thangaraj has called on the state government to take strict, impartial action against administrators of the TVK party following several allegations of sexual harassment. Thangaraj highlighted specific incidents involving a 65-year-old woman in Chennai and a woman near Ettayapuram, questioning whether the administration is showing leniency toward its own party members despite official ‘no compromise’ stances on crimes against women.
