Political leaders demand transparency in public fund management in Chad and Senegal
In Chad, Senator Mbaigolmem Sébastien has called for increased transparency and accountability regarding the management of public resources in the Logone Occidental region. During a press conference in Moundou, the senator addressed concerns over the coordination of government actions, specifically regarding recurring conflicts between farmers and herders. He highlighted the need to investigate the origins of weapons used in these clashes and requested immediate support for affected populations.
Additionally, the senator demanded clarification on the management of oil revenues, specifically questioning the allocation of 5% of funds intended for youth credits by a former management committee. He urged the provincial council to present a detailed report on these matters.
In Senegal, Deputy Amadou Ba has raised allegations regarding the remuneration of former officials at the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE). Ba claimed that certain presidents of the institution received up to 50 million CFA francs per month, though he provided no specific names or documentation to verify the claim.
These allegations coincide with efforts by National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko to establish five parliamentary inquiry commissions. These commissions aim to investigate the use of special funds from the Prime Minister's office, the High Council of Territorial Collectivities, and the CESE for the period between 2012 and 2026.
