Political leaders in Greece and Cyprus issue sharp criticisms

In Greece, opposition leader Kostis Smeros has launched a sharp critique against the Pallini municipal administration and Mayor Christos Aidonis. The dispute arose during an Anthousa Community Council meeting regarding the naming and operation of a local choir. Smeros claims the musical group lacks official institutional status and questioned the legality of its participation in concerts and receipt of sponsorships. He further criticized the council for prioritizing the choir issue over pressing local concerns, such as the functioning of the Anthousa Junior High School, and called for the resignation of the Community Council President.

In Cyprus, AKEL Famagusta District Secretary Christos Nikolaou criticized both the current Christodoulides administration and the previous Anastasiades government for failing to deliver on promises made to the refugee community and the free area of Famagusta. Speaking at a party conference in Frenaros, Nikolaou described the ‘Ktizo’ Plan—intended to address structural deficiencies in refugee apartment buildings—as moving at a ‘snail’s pace.’ He accused the government of making empty promises regarding infrastructure, health, and education while simultaneously reducing funds intended for refugee support.
