Political leaders in Haiti and Mauritius address domestic crises
In Haiti, former President Jocelerme Privert has introduced a political project titled ‘Haïti Transformé’ aimed at state reconstruction. The initiative focuses on security, democratic legitimacy, and economic development to address institutional fragility and social instability. Privert emphasizes that territorial control is a priority to combat lawlessness and isolation in various departments. His five-year stabilization plan also addresses the humanitarian crisis, noting that approximately six million people face food insecurity and nearly two million have been displaced.
In Mauritius, the Front Militant Progressiste (FMP) has criticized the government’s management of recent socio-political and security crises. During a press conference, party leaders including Paul Bérenger expressed concerns over executive failures, economic difficulties, and the management of police forces. The FMP specifically raised alarms regarding proposed legislative changes, such as amendments to police laws and the replacement of the Financial Crimes Commission with a National Crime Agency, arguing these measures could threaten fundamental freedoms.
