Cuba and UNESCO evaluate cooperation in education and science

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel met with Lidia Arthur Brito, UNESCO’s Deputy Director-General for Africa Priority and Foreign Relations, to evaluate bilateral cooperation in education, science, and culture.

Díaz-Canel emphasized that science, innovation, and culture are fundamental pillars of his government's management. He reaffirmed Cuba's commitment to providing universal, free, and inclusive education and health services, while defending cultural sovereignty against external influences. The President noted that the new school year has begun despite a complex energy situation and the impact of economic sanctions.

UNESCO officials commended the Cuban government for maintaining educational continuity under difficult circumstances. The discussions included a review of ongoing cooperation and the work of UNESCO's regional office in the country, including specific projects involving local schools.
