Political leadership changes occur in South Sulawesi

Several political leadership transitions took place in South Sulawesi, Indonesia, during late October 2026.

In Makassar, the Golkar Party inaugurated its South Sulawesi Regional Leadership Council (DPD I). Although Party Chairman Bahlil Lahadalia was unable to attend, Secretary General Muhammad Sarmuji presided over the ceremony. The event concluded with the handover of the party flag to the new chairman, Ilham Arief Sirajuddin, symbolizing a new term focused on organizational consolidation.

Simultaneously, Munafri Arifuddin was elected by acclamation as the Chairman of the Democratic Party for the South Sulawesi region for the 2026–2031 period. During an Extraordinary Regional Deliberation (Musdalub) in Makassar, Arifuddin received full support from 27 voting entities, including regional and district branches. He succeeds Ni'matullah Erbe and has been granted 30 days to form a new management structure.
