Political leadership debate in Iceland regarding Viðreisn

Guðbjörn Guðbjörnsson, an administrator and opera singer, has expressed the view that the time for Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir to serve as the leader of the Viðreisn party has passed. Speaking on Útvarp Saga, Guðbjörn suggested that while Gunnarsdóttir could continue to manage foreign affairs and related tasks, the party requires new leadership to move forward.

Guðbjörn emphasized the importance of political execution, stating that leaders must follow through on their promises rather than relying solely on rhetoric or personality. He proposed Þorbjörg Sigríður Gunnlaugsdóttir as a potential successor, describing her as one of the party’s strongest members and praising her work in foreign affairs and her ability to implement stated goals.
