Political polls show leadership shifts in Peru and Chile

Recent polling data reveals shifting political landscapes in Peru and Chile. In Peru, a CIT Perú survey regarding the 2026 municipal elections in Lima shows Rafael López Aliaga of Renovación Popular leading with 33.4% of the intended vote. He is followed by Carlos Bruce at 12% and Francis Allison at 11.8%. López Aliaga also leads in the perception of being best prepared to combat citizen insecurity with 29%.

In Chile, the Criteria poll for the first week of September indicates that President José Antonio Kast's approval rating has fallen to 30%, while his disapproval has risen to 58%. This represents a significant decline since March. The survey highlights growing dissatisfaction with the national economy, with 51% of respondents describing the situation as bad, and a perception that the government is improvising regarding economic growth and job creation.
