Political resignations reported in Spain and Chile
In Spain, Ana Ferrer Prohías, a People's Party (PP) councilwoman in Ibiza, has resigned from her position at the Ibiza City Council. She cited personal and family reasons for her departure, which she communicated to the mayor both verbally and in writing.
The resignation follows the arrest of her husband, José Luis Cortés Cortés, in a major law enforcement operation targeting drug trafficking and money laundering. The operation, led by the National Court, resulted in 27 arrests and the seizure of over 1,500 kilograms of cocaine, luxury vehicles, and millions in crypto-assets. While her husband is among those detained, authorities have not linked Ferrer to the criminal investigation.
In Chile, former Undersecretary of Women and Gender Equality, Daniela Castro, has resigned from the Renovación Nacional (RN) party. This decision comes nearly four months after she was removed from her government position by President José Antonio Kast following disagreements with the Minister of Women and Gender Equality.
Castro announced her departure via social media, sharing her official disaffiliation certificate. She stated that her decision was made in accordance with her convictions and emphasized the importance of personal respect and family values.
