Political rivalry emerges between Helsingborg and Malmö
A political rivalry has surfaced in the Swedish Parliament between representatives from Helsingborg and Malmö. While Malmö is significantly larger, Helsingborg currently holds a strong presence in the Riksdag. Out of twelve politicians in the Skåne County West constituency, seven are from Helsingborg. Additionally, Cecilia Engström of the Christian Democrats represents the Skåne County South constituency and is also from Helsingborg.
When including the 'Familjen Helsingborg' municipal cooperation, the number of representatives from the Helsingborg area increases by four, including members from Ängelholm, Örkelljunga, and Landskrona. In contrast, Malmö has eleven representatives. Local politicians have noted that Helsingborg’s strong municipal political structure may have contributed to its members securing influential positions within their respective national parties.
