Political shifts and electoral criticisms emerge in Taroudant

Political tensions are rising in the Taroudant province of Morocco, specifically within the Oulad Berhil region, marked by criticisms of electoral integrity and significant party shifts.

Abdelaziz Amjan, former president of the Oulad Berhil community and a former Justice and Development Party member, has criticized the current state of political practice. He described elections as having devolved into a “market” driven by money and promises rather than programmatic competition. Amjan also raised concerns regarding the transparency of wealth used for real estate acquisitions in the region and criticized the government's performance in sectors such as transport and post-earthquake reconstruction management.

In a separate development, Said Imzilen, a local leader and national council member of the Istiqlal Party, announced his resignation from the party to join the National Rally of Independents (RNI). Imzilen cited dissatisfaction with the “unilateral management” of the Oulad Berhil municipal council and a lack of participatory decision-making as his primary reasons for leaving. He noted that his move follows five years of interaction with the RNI, which he described as a “school for leadership formation.”
