Political shifts and threats to officials reported in Italy

In Sicily, Antonio Villardita has left the Forza Italia party, a move described by deputy Salvo Tomarchio as a “grave blow” to the party in the Catania region. Villardita, who served as the provincial vice secretary and previously secured over 5,000 preferences in regional elections, cited disagreements with the local leadership. Tomarchio criticized the party's management in Catania, alleging a lack of internal dialogue and a focus on personal interests rather than territorial roots. He suggested the possibility of appointing a commissioner to the provincial party to prevent further loss of members and administrators.

In Calabria, the Cgil trade union has condemned serious threats directed at Antonio Iannello, the president of the Vibo Valentia City Council. Following anonymous death threats and previous incidents involving gunfire directed at his home and vehicle, union representatives met with Iannello to express solidarity. The union characterized these intimidations as an attack on democracy and an attempt to influence institutional functions through fear.
