Political shifts emerge in Ibagué as officials clarify future roles
Several administrative changes and political clarifications have surfaced in Ibagué regarding the 2027 elections. Retired General Jhon Jairo Rojas Gómez has resigned from his position as the Secretary of Government. His departure, accepted by Mayor Johana Aranda, follows his tenure since July 2026. Reports suggest Rojas may be seeking the Mayoralty of Ibagué with the potential support of the Defensores de la Patria political movement.
In a separate development, Felipe La Rota, manager of the Municipal Institute for Sport and Recreation (IMDRI), has dismissed rumors regarding a potential candidacy for the Municipal Council. La Rota stated his intention to remain in his current role to oversee ongoing sports and infrastructure projects, including improvements to the Manuel Murillo Toro stadium and the Parque Deportivo. He criticized individuals who use criticisms of the municipal administration to advance their own political ambitions.
