Political shifts emerge in La Rioja and Salta provinces
In La Rioja, La Libertad Avanza (LLA) is undergoing leadership changes. Provincial deputy Diego Molina Gómez confirmed that Claudia López will move to the Senate to fill the seat left by the late Juan Carlos Pagotto, while Celeste Maidana will take López’s former position in the Provincial Legislature. Regarding future elections, Molina Gómez stated that Martín Menem is the party’s sole candidate for governor in 2027.
In Salta, Governor Gustavo Sáenz is conducting regional meetings with mayors and legislators to define the 2027 budget and infrastructure priorities. These meetings serve a dual purpose of addressing administrative needs and consolidating political support ahead of upcoming elections. Notably, Tartagal Mayor Franco Hernández Berni has strengthened his alliance with Sáenz, expressing support for the governor’s potential reelection.
Political analysts in Salta also highlight potential challenges for the current administration. While Sáenz has reportedly sought agreements with La Libertad Avanza to stabilize the local political landscape, the rising popularity of former governor Juan Manuel Urtubey presents a significant competitive threat to the current ruling coalition.
