Political shifts in Argentina and Ecuador as parties split and form alliances

In Argentina, the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR) in Buenos Aires experienced internal division during its provincial convention in La Plata. While the party moved forward with reorganizing its structures and electing Pablo Nicoletti as president of the Honorable Provincial Convention under the leadership of Emiliano Balbín, the sector ‘Construir’ withdrew from the meeting.

Construir, which includes figures linked to Miguel Fernández and Alejandra Lordén, announced it would not recognize the legitimacy of the new leadership. The split followed failed negotiations regarding the composition of the Electoral Board and the vice presidency of the Provincial Committee. The sector argued that the final representation did not reflect their political weight within the party structure.

In Ecuador, the political organizations Revolución Ciudadana and Unidad Popular have formed an alliance for upcoming sectional elections. This agreement marks a significant shift, as the two groups have a history of intense political confrontation. The alliance will allow correísmo candidates to run in specific territories, including Quito, despite years of mutual criticism and legal tensions between their respective leaders.
