Political shifts reported in Muğla and Üsküdar municipalities

Political shifts and legal developments are occurring in Turkish local governance. In Muğla, Gonca Köksal Aras, the Mayor of Menteşe and wife of Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras, has left the Republican People's Party (CHP) to join the YENİ Party. Ahmet Aras remains with the CHP.

In Istanbul, the Istanbul Governorship has issued a decision regarding the leadership of Üsküdar Municipality following a court ruling. After the arrest of CHP Mayor Sinem Dedetaş on charges including bribery and forming a criminal organization, a dispute arose over the election of a deputy mayor. Following a stay of execution order from the Istanbul 2nd Administrative Court, the Governorship announced that the first deputy chairman of the Üsküdar Municipal Council will act as deputy mayor until a new election is held, or the second deputy chairman if the first is unavailable.
