Political shifts reported in Slovakia and Czech Republic

In Slovakia, a new AKO poll shows Progresívne Slovensko (PS) leading with 18.9% support, a decrease of 2.1 percentage points from the previous August survey. Smer follows closely at 17.1%, also seeing a slight decline of 0.6 points. Other parties include Republika at 9.7%, Hlas at 8.6%, and SaS at 8.1%.

In the Czech Republic, political shifts are occurring following the formation of a coalition between ANO, SPD, and Motoristé. There are reports of discussions regarding the creation of a new far-right populist movement, described as a Czech equivalent to the German AfD. This potential unification aims to focus on themes such as ending aid to Ukraine, resuming Russian gas imports, and cutting state spending, as smaller coalition partners fear losing voters to Andrej Babiš.
