Political tensions emerge in Gela and Cosenza

In Gela, political friction is rising within Mayor Terenziano Di Stefano’s coalition. Rino Licata, secretary of the civic movement ‘Una Buona Idea’, noted that local dynamics are being affected by regional and national political shifts. Specifically, Nuccio Di Paola, Vice President of Ars, has openly contested both the regional center-right and the MPA, despite being part of the 2024 alliance. Licata emphasized that the local alliance should remain distinct from regional strategies to ensure the city's needs are prioritized over ‘orders from headquarters’ in Palermo.

In Cosenza, the movement ‘Libertà è Democrazia’ has issued a call to moderate and center-populist parties ahead of upcoming municipal elections. Leadership figures, including Eraldo Rizzuti and Alberto Vallone, argued against selecting mayoral candidates in ‘secret rooms’ before establishing a shared platform. The movement insists that a concrete administrative program must be developed collectively before a candidate is chosen, aiming to avoid the mistakes of past electoral coalitions that lacked substantive policy alignment.
