Political tensions rise in Argentina over Peronist unity and religious discourse
In Argentina, Tigre Mayor Julio Zamora has called for a 'programmatic agreement' to achieve unity within the Justicialist Party (PJ). Zamora emphasized that true unity requires defining a clear government program to address the coexistence of neoliberal, progressive, and national-popular ideologies within the party. He noted that internal divisions in previous administrations led to citizen frustration and argued that dialogue must be accompanied by substantive policy proposals rather than personal attacks.
Separately, Zulema Menem has criticized Deputy Luis Petri and other officials regarding their rhetoric concerning Islam. Menem, identifying as a Muslim woman, argued that 'confusing Islam with terrorism is a grave error' that demonstrates a lack of cultural understanding. She pointed out the contradiction between the government's cultural rhetoric and its economic interests, noting that significant investments sought by YPF are currently coming from the United Arab Emirates.
