Political tensions rise in Didim and Denizli, Turkey

In Didim, AK Party District Chairman Mehmet Vela has issued sharp criticisms against the local municipality regarding administrative delays and service issues. Vela highlighted significant bottlenecks in construction licensing and occupancy permit processes, noting that some permits take up to a year to process. He also raised concerns regarding the sealing of local businesses and hotels, questioning whether the municipality is supporting local tourism or hindering it.

Vela further questioned the increased security measures within the municipal building and alleged significant public spending, including claims of a 20 million TL food bill over the past year.

In Denizli, YENİ Party District Chairman Ali Osman Horzum expressed opposition to the detention of Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan. Horzum criticized the early morning search and detention, arguing that the process disregarded the presumption of innocence and the right to a fair trial. He called for the investigation to be conducted transparently and within the principles of a rule-of-law state.
