Political tensions rise in India and Pakistan

In India, a political controversy has erupted following a Congress leader's event in Indore. During Rahul Gandhi's 'Chatron Ki Goonj' youth dialogue program, stand-up comedian Pulkit Mani performed a mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The comedian mocked the Prime Minister's mannerisms, foreign speeches, and recent interactions, including a specific incident involving an elderly woman. Rahul Gandhi responded to the performance with laughter. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly condemned the act, labeling it shameful and an insult to the Prime Minister's dignity. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized the Congress party for a perceived lack of moral values.

In Pakistan, police in Lahore arrested Aleema Khanum, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The arrest occurred as she and members of the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were preparing for protests demanding Khan's release from prison. PTI officials confirmed the arrest, noting that authorities are also monitoring planned demonstrations in Islamabad. Security has been tightened in sensitive areas to manage potential unrest. Imran Khan has remained in custody since August 2023, and his party continues to organize peaceful marches to advocate for his freedom.
