Political tensions rise in Loja council and Mexican PAN party

In Loja, Ecuador, a recent extraordinary council session has sparked conflict among local officials. Councilman Santiago Erráez Veintimilla criticized Mayor Diana Guayanay Llanes for failing to convene the full 12-member body, noting that the absence of an alternate for Vice Mayor Pablo Aníbal Quiñónez Riofrío hindered proceedings. Erráez issued an ultimatum, stating he would walk out of future sessions if such irregularities continue. Councilman John Esteban Espinosa Villacrés also opposed the extraordinary nature of the meeting, suggesting that similar tactics were used by the previous administration to avoid oversight.

In Mexico, the political landscape within the National Action Party (PAN) is shifting following the detention of former prosecutor César Jáuregui. The situation has weakened the position of Government Secretary Santiago de la Peña, opening space for other figures such as federal deputy María Angélica ‘Manque’ Granados and Alán ‘Cabrito’ Falomir to promote their projects. The party's National Executive Committee is expected to set the terms for a unified decision regarding future leadership.
